What kind of computer to choose for games and movies?

The latest high-definition games and movies are becoming more challenging for our computers. Of course, most games can be run on any mid-range device, but this will usually be at the expense of correct resolution, game fluidity and reproduction of most graphic details. The same is true for movies available in HD, Full HD or 4K format. Today we will consider which computer to choose for games and movies? What features such equipment should have and whether a good gaming computer can be cheap?

What kind of gaming computer to buy?

Before we answer the question, what computer to choose for gaming and videos, you should first of all consider what your individual needs and expectations are from such equipment? Whether it is to be a desktop or mobile device, what budget we have for its purchase, and what basic requirements our future computer should meet (e.g., monitor size, lowest parameters to support your favorite games, HDMI input, USB, etc.).), or what it should definitely have on board. So is it possible to buy a gaming PC for up to 2,000, 3,000 or 4,000 zlotys? Of course! However, we do not have to immediately decide on new equipment. At these prices you can buy used gaming computer with parameters often exceeding new equipment.

What we're looking for?

To enjoy the latest computer games, our device needs a powerful processor with high clocking, a capacious driveru hard drive, preferably an SSD, and a powerful graphics card. This is the bare minimum. A gamer's computer is also about the right amount of RAM, efficient CPU cooling, and a high-powered power supply for low power loss at the same time.

You can specify in advance the minimum technical parameters that a decent gaming computer should have. First of all, it should have:

  • at least a 4-core processor (a 6- or 8-core would be better and more powerful, of course)
  • fast driver type SSD
  • advanced graphics card (minimum Radeon RX, GeForce GTX or RTX)
  • rAM of at least 8 - 12 GB or more

Some of the more popular graphics cards on the market, mounted in computers, are certainly the GeForce GTX 1060 and RTX 2060 Super models, as well as the Radeon HD7650. As for processors, we are likely to come across Intel Core i5, Intel Core i7 and AMD Ryzen 5. If the latest games are to run without much trouble, we need at least medium graphics settings, so a processor with 4 cores and 4 threads, such as AMD Ryzen 3 3200G or Intel Core i3-9100F. If we come up with the crazy idea of playing in 4K quality or on several connected monitors, one of the top graphics cards will come in handy - AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT or NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080. The performance of the device is also greatly affected by the timing of the RAM. Cheap gaming computer will provide them at about 2666 MHz, which is not bad, but it can always be better!

Importantly, if individual components of the computer stand out from each other in terms of performance, then they can "weaken" each other. Using a low-performance processor, for example, we won't get the most out of an advanced graphics card, and vice versa. So it's not worth investing in the best graphics card on the market if we can't afford a 6- or 8-core processor.

Powerful gaming hardware for mobile

Our suggestion for gamers who value the mobility of the device above all is the Dell Latitude E5570 with a sixth-generation Intel Core i7 processor and up to 16 GB of DDR4 RAM. Games are supported by a Radeon R7 370M graphics card with 2GB of memory, and the image is displayed on a 15.6-inch touchscreen with a maximum resolution of 1920x1080 pixels. Basically, it has everything a player needs, and the price is strongly competitive!

What kind of computer to buy for watching movies?

A which computer to choose for movies? In this case, the most important part of the whole device will undoubtedly be the monitor. A good monitor/display should provide the widest possible viewing angles and a fast matrix response time. For laptops, the size of the display is especially important, starting with the small 13- and 14-inch ones and the larger 17-inch ones. The most popular choice among customers is still 15-inch displays, which provide not only adequate portability, but also good display quality. For desktops, to take advantage of HD quality, go for 24-inch monitors with a resolution of 1920x1200 pixels. Everything, of course, revolves around the price of a particular product. With a small budget, it is worth opting for a post-lease computer with a good quality monitor.

To watch movies in HD, we should buy a computer with a minimum Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8 GHz processor or AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+. For RAM, the necessary minimum should be 4 GB. Let's not forget the appropriate connectors for plugging in additional peripherals (m.in. USB, HDMI), as well as a CD/DVD drive if we need it. However, you can always buy an external USB optical drive.
